President's Letter: December 2013

Can you believe it's Christmas time, already? Could've sworn I just put my Santa hat away from last year! That being said, it's that time of year again, and every December we bring our favorite drinks, dishes, desserts (and utensils!) to our annual Holiday Potluck Dinner.

This month we will be honoring our retiring CTC Boardmembers and their steadfast commitment to our community and Clairemont Town Council. We will also present checks to our Fall Grant recipients: Hawthorne Elementary for improvements to their school gardens, and Holmes Elementary to help send their 5th graders to a Junior Achievement-hosted event at BizTown.

Our final Fall Grant recipient, Nirvana Ortanez, was introduced at our Mayoral Forum last month. Nirvana, one of the top-ranked snowboarders in the world, is training and competing to become the first female Olympic athlete to represent the Philippines at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. If you'd like to learn more about Nirvana, please visit her website at http://makeachamp.com/nirvanao

Also, we always have special guests who attend and sit down to eat with us at our annual dinner. We never know who shows up so it's always a special treat when they stop by! If you'd like to bring a dish to share, extra utensils, plates, napkins, a bag of chips, or whatever -- you're always more than welcome to! So, join us on Thursday, December 5th at 7:00pm inside the Cadman Elementary cafeteria for our Annual Holiday Dinner!

Finally, we want to congratulate those who were elected onto our 2014 Board of Directors: Ryan Trabuco (President), Richard Morris (Vice-President), Joanne Phillips (Secretary), Janett Lewis (Director North), Joe Sopher (Director South), and Steve Innis and Marvin Gartenbaum (Directors-at-Large). New boardmembers will be sworn-in at our Inaugural Meeting on Thursday, January 9th at 7:00pm inside the Cadman Elementary cafeteria.

As a reminder, please note the date of our Inaugural Meeting is on January 9th -- the SECOND THURSDAY of the month. We decided to move it because no one will show up the day after New Years, am I right? Besides, our guest speaker that night will be our SDPD Police Chief William Lansdowne -- so you better show up, folks! Until next time...

Working for you, Clairemont!
Ryan Trabuco
CTC President
