The 18th Annual Clairemont Garden Tour

One of the most popular springtime events in Clairemont is the Clairemont Town Council’s Annual Garden Tour. Now in its 18th year, the CTC’s Garden Tour showcases beautiful private gardens throughout the Clairemont Community made up of the unique neighborhoods of Clairemont Mesa East, Clairemont Mesa West, North Clairemont, Bay Ho and Bay Park.

This year’s Garden Tour will be held on Saturday, May 17th, 2014 from 10am until 4pm.

The self-guided tour includes 12 gardens, no two the same. You will see a variety of water features, drought tolerant gardens, gardens that attract butterflies and birds, vegetable gardens and much, much more.

First time attendees are often very surprised by the gardens they see on the tour. It’s not uncommon to hear comments like “Wow! Who knew there was a gem like this tucked away here!” or “I had no idea a backyard could look like this!”

There are many lovely garden tours in San Diego, such as those in Mission Hills, Point Loma and La Jolla. Almost all of the gardens on these tours are landscaped by the professionals whose signs are displayed. The Clairemont Garden Tour, on the other hand, is different: the majority of the gardens on the tour have been designed and maintained by the owners themselves! It is impressive how the residents of Clairemont can have a wonderful vision and execution.

This year the Garden Tour will feature an Expo, running from 11am through 3pm (location to be announced).  The Expo will include booths from Garden Tour sponsors and will feature seminars in energy efficiency for both the home and garden, water conservation, “green” ideas and resources, and fun-filled, creative activities for children.   There will also be booths selling snacks and refreshments.  At 5pm, there will be a reception and awards for the best garden and visitor favorite will be presented.

What does the CTC do with the money raised through ticket sales? It all goes right back into the community of Clairemont via Town Council grants throughout the year.  Schools, Eagle Scouts and music teachers are just some of the folks whose ideas for a better Clairemont were funded in part by Garden Tour sponsorship and ticket sales.
